Dip yourself into ice cold water
Ice-swimming is something extra-ordinary, something you may want to try at least once during your holiday in Lapland. It might sound crazy, but once you've done it, you'll understand why it is so popular in Finland. Dipping in the cold water leaves you with a great feeling afterwards - you'll feel like superhuman.
In Levi you can go ice-swimming by booking the whole sauna and ice-swimming experience privately or by joining a public sauna and ice-swimming program. The sharedice swimming experience is available at Elves Village, Aakenuspirtti, Saunabaari, Sammun Tupa and Arctic Sauna World.
At the Elves Village you can dip into the Ounasjoki river. It is possible to enjoy the riverbank sauna and ice swimming on Fridays from 13.00-15.00 (on Tuesdays in December). Book your place in advance here.
Ice swimming can also be experienced at Saunabaari on Fridays and Saturdays from 18.00-21.00 (weather permitting). Advance booking is not required. Please note that Saunabaari does not have a sauna.
In addition you can rent the sauna and ice swimming for yourself at:
Immelkartano and Sammun tupa have saunas that in winter also include the availability to try ice swimming. The sauna and ice swimming must be booked in advance for private use, and you can choose between a wood sauna and a smoke sauna. Contact the tourist information to book.
Arctic Sauna World is located approximately 30-minute drive away from Levi. The place invites you to relax in beautiful lakeside landscape with various saunas and a chance to refresh yourself in the lake water.
Please remember it is not safe to go swimming in the places you don't know and which are unsupervised.
