Lapland O Week 2025: A unique orienteering experience in Levi

Lapland O Week returns to Levi next summer from July 19th to 24th, 2025.

This six-day, relaxed orienteering week offers a unique experience that is sure to be unforgettable for all participants. The 2025 event will be a special one in Finland, as the orienteering competition will, for the first time ever, utilize a gondola lift. Combined with Levi's open fell landscapes, this creates a truly one-of-a-kind adventure and orienteering experience.

"Our goal is always to offer something new and unprecedented to the participants. For next year, we're setting the bar incredibly high and aiming to create an event that will be remembered for decades. Levi is now familiar to us from this year, which enables us to deliver such experiences next year," says Lapland O Week's event director, Antti Vainio.

The 2024 event in Levi attracted a record number of participants, with 1050-1100 orienteers, along with numerous families and supporters. Levi's easy accessibility was one of the key factors behind the event's popularity. Levi is well-known as a favorite destination for families, offering plenty of activities throughout the entire holiday.

"Levi is a place that attracts families. Additionally, new orienteering terrains always pique the interest of the orienteering community, and I believe that Levi's accessibility and diverse activities are major draws," Vainio continues.

New terrains and gondola lift access

Next year's event will feature entirely new orienteering terrains, with none of the areas from the previous summer being reused. A new feature is the use of gondola lifts – starting points will be located at the top of the fell, and the competition center will be accessible by lift. This innovation makes Lapland O Week particularly interesting from an orienteer's perspective, offering the opportunity to experience both Levi's village and its open fell landscapes in a unique way.

Lapland O Week is scheduled just one week after the World Orienteering Championships, which will be held in Kuopio from July 7th to 12th, 2025. The event organizers hope that the international marketing of Lapland O Week will attract foreign orienteers and stars to join.

"If our marketing efforts succeed, we may attract international orienteers and stars," Vainio notes.
