Levi Ski Resort’s unique approach to snow preservation and year-round services
The Levi World Cup is one of the highlights of the year for the Levi area.
The event brings many visitors and race guests to the region at the very start of the winter season, filling the area and truly kicking off the winter season. The event is particularly important for the local tourism industry and supports the destination’s year-round operations.
Levi Ski Resort supports alpine skiing locally, nationally, and internationally in collaboration with Ski Sport Finland, FIS and Levi Events by providing top-level facilities for alpine skiing and the Levi World Cup event. Levi Ski Resort’s input for the World Cup Levi Event includes modern slope services, advanced slope infrastructure, and a diverse, high-quality, and accessible range of services in the ski resort area. The Levi World Cup Training Center concept offers services for the teams to train efficiently in Levi. The venues for the alpine racing are Levi Black, Levi West and Levi Glacier areas.
Levi Ski Resort ensures the conditions for the event and the ski season
Levi’s uniqueness stems from its Arctic environment, which serves as the stage for the World Cup event. Snow preservation over the summer guarantees that competitions can be held at the beginning of the winter season and enables year-round employment in the tourism industry. Energy-efficient snow making during polar night and frosty winter with preservation technique is Levi Ski Resort’s way of supporting the Levi area responsibly and economically. A long, snowy spring allows skiing until mid-May, when the first summer services can also open.
Levi Ski Resort is a pioneer in snow preservation and snowmaking technology. Long-term development work on snow preservation began with the 2016 World Cup. Preserved snow offers an energy-efficient solution to bring forward the start of the winter season and secure conditions for alpine skiing competitions and the Levi destination as a whole.
Seven-month snow guarantee
Years of work are now yielding results, and the 2024-2025 season is longer than ever before. This extended season allows sports teams to train at Levi for extended periods, beginning as early as October, which reduces the need for team travel. The accessibility of slope services also minimizes the need for local transportation.
Levi Ski Resort collaborates with the best possible partners to advance sustainable ski resort operations. Our slope infrastructure utilizes the latest and highest quality technology available. We support the development of a sustainable tourism industry and are committed to promoting local engagement and well-being. We take genuine actions for the benefit of the environment and society.
Most recent sustainability actions
To mention the latest improvements in addition to early season training possibilities, in 2024 the Gondola facilities have been renovated to suit training needs and changed to use geothermal energy. During the summer of 2024, major improvements to energy efficiency and training conditions were made with the installation of LED lighting on the Levi Black slope. Since the ski season 23/24 Levi has also been using biofuel on piste groomers to lower the emissions. Through these investments, we collaborate in concrete actions to promote sustainable ski resort operations.
