Stop and enjoy
Nature in Levi offers endless sensory experiences.
The colours of sky and earth
OPEN YOUR EYES.
The low-hanging sun paints the sky in pastel tones during kaamos, the polar night. Polar night in the North means darkness and pastels. As the sun never rises, the light is never direct or harsh. There is room for more subtle tones, framed by the darkness.
In winter, a blanket of snow transforms the landscape. The whiteness that covers everything is a powerful experience. Snow cloaks everything and even the sky seems to have lost its colour. During this season, colours seem to glow brighter than ever.
The seasonal colour baths of the mountain landscapes allow you to reflect on your mood and discover the gentlest shades for yourself. Levi's nature offers endless colour experiences.
S E E: The enchanting fireplace. You could stare endlessly into the fire. It makes you feel relaxed and drowsy. The fire in the fireplace of the cabin gradually dies down and the old walls whisper stories from times gone by.
The miracle of silence
QUITEN DOWN and notice the sounds around you.
The lakeside is breathtakingly quiet. Your ears tune in to the subtle sounds. They catch the primeval chorus of the pine tops, ants bustling about on their hill, the ripple of a distant fell stream.
Breathe and sense the moments on the edges of silence. When all is silent, you do not have to stay constantly alert, waiting to see what happens next.
The patter of rain, the ripple of a stream or the gentle splash of a paddle on a perfectly still lake. The subtle sounds of water have a calming effect. Many experience pressure in life to perform and succeed. By the water, you can let go of control and simply take it all in. Not all the answers have to come from within.
HEAR: The sighing fell breeze. When everything stops moving, the gust of wind whispers the ancient secrets of the fells.
The scents of the North
CLOSE YOUR EYES and take a deep breath.
The scent of the forest is strong and luscious; you can make out fresh soil and the crystal-clear crispness carried by the wind from the fell streams. Your boot comes down next to
a bunch of lingonberries. Your mouth starts to water even before you pop the first berry inside.
You will return to this moment every time you smell the tart aroma of lingonberries.
The northern experience evades description. Words seem inadequate to describe the feeling that arises when the boundaries between yourself and nature dissolve. All that remains are the scents. They access the memories that words cannot reach. The scents of the North remain powerful.
SMELL: The age-old charm of campfire smoke. Its scent holds the promise of light, warmth and shared stories. The campfire turns strangers into friends.
Cleanes air of the World
BREATHE IN AND OUT. Let your mind calm down.
The mist floats in the forest and surrounds the early hiker. The cool morning dew dampens the leaves and tussocks, painted red by the autumn foliage. The autumn forest
is full of anticipation.
Crisp morning air fills the lungs and roots you to your surroundings. Breathe the clean air together with the forest animals. The air connects you to this moment.
When you breathe deeply in the North, you can almost sense your whole body being cleansed and refreshed. The air here is the cleanest in the world. Not only can you feel it, but
also see it, because the evidence hangs from the tree branches. Horsehair lichens are highly sensitive to air pollution. They cannot survive in polluted air, but in Levi, they can grow into flowing tree beards up to 10–20 centimetres long.
BREATHE: Feel the tension and rush melt away. The forest welcomes you just as you are. In Levi, nature is never far away.
Gentle frostbite
IMAGINE the frost leaving its mark on you: the white tiaras of your eyelashes, the chill that fills your lungs, your cheeks glowing red.
It is astonishingly quiet. Focus on listening to what the snow has to tell you. With every step, the freshly fallen snow makes a squeaky crunch. The sound comes from the points of snowflakes breaking under your feet.
Trees with crown snow loads rise like pillars from the snow. The frost polishes the thousands of gems on the blanket of snow. The cold air is filled with an invisible mist of ice, diamond dust. When the sunlight hits the dust, it separates into all the colours of the spectrum, creating winter's very own rainbows.
The human eye can mistake frost for pain and start to produce tears. Perhaps they are tears of joy?
FEEL : Take a dip in a hole in the ice. The cold rushes through your whole body. Afterwards, you experience an incredible sense of euphoria.
