Särestöniemi Art Museum
A unique and peaceful place to visit on the banks of Ounasjoki: The home and art museum of painter, Professor Reidar Särestöniemi (1925-1981) in Kittilä Kaukonen.
The Särestöniemi Museum, located in the village of Kaukonen, is a memorable cultural destination full of emotion, history, and art. The museum complex includes the estate of the Särestöniemi family, which represents the old “peräpohjalainen” building tradition, Old Särestö (1873) and the impressive log buildings Galleria (1972) and Ateljee-koti (1978) built by Reidar Särestöniemi and designed by the architect couple Reima and Raili Pietilä. You can also find a small cafe and a museum shop in Särestöniemi.
Särestöniemi´s works are always on display in the gallery, the main exhibition changes once a year in November-December. In Atelier and Old Särestö, the exhibitions change more often - there is always something new to see in Särestö! The museum is open all year-round Tue-Sat from 12-18, the ticket office closes at 17.00. Functional activities available for families with children during the museum visit without a separate fee. From the star of July till the end of September The museum is also open on Sundays.

Guided tours for groups 50 € (duration 1,5-2 h) + entrance fee, max 40 person.
